Businesses within the road sector have reported a 20% hike in costs over the last year, senior Department for Transport officials have been warned.
Inflation and pressures on supply chains in the UK have seen many firms look overseas for supplies, increasing costs and causing delays.
The issue was reported at a meeting of the UK Roads Liaison Group where it was noted that material costs have risen sharply since 2020, with further price hikes expected into early next year.
Attendees also warned that delays in the supply of materials was affecting what has typically been a ‘just in time’ operating model for many firms within the roads sector.
